Layout Tables and Floor Coverings
The Velta 'Pipe-in-Floor' heating system is laid out for residential accommodation
to allow for the least favourable, but still admissible floor covering.
We cannot assume that a room with a particular covering will remain as
such after a change of use or after some years. Furthermore, during
the calculations, corrections for ceramic or stone tiled floors are superfluous,
since such floors are usually covered with loose carpets and rugs; except
where, as in the case of kitchens or bathrooms it is known that this is
the final floor finish then it may be desirable to make allowance.
Practical experience has also shown us that the choice of the floor covering
has almost never been made at the time when the heating system is being
planned!
The details in the calculation tables apply for overfloor coverings with
a thermal resistance of not more than 0.15m2K/W for the Velta standard
design thicknesses. This floor covering represents the least favourable
design whilst still being within the design limits.
When various floor coverings are provided for in a building, the calculation
should take place primarily in accordance with the calculation tables
or graph for+his least favourable floor covering, therefore the water
flow rates must be throttled down at the manifold. If for instance
in a building project the least favourable floor covering with a thermal
resistance of 0.15 is not initially present, the mean heating water temperature
can be reduced vis-a-vis the calculated temperature to the values of the
table below:
