There are various methods of floor construction with Velta heating:

1) Basic construction with carpet over:

Materials - Under Floor Pipes

Where nailed edge fixings are used to fix down carpet care should be taken not to puncture pipes and consideration should be paid when planning underfloor layouts. Ideally no heating pipe should be nearer than 100mm from the wall edge.

Note: The use of carpets and underlay may require an increase in flow water temperature because of the combined thermal resistance of carpet and underlay. The thicker the carpet and underlay, the greater the insulation value and the higher the floor surface temperature under the carpet to compensate and consequently higher running costs with slower system response. Natural materials for carpet and underlay are best.  Refer to the carpet manufacturer for specific details.

2) Ceramic tiles on thin bed adhesive:

Materials - Under Floor Pipes

3) Ceramic tiles or bricks etc on thick bed mortar:

Materials - Under Floor Pipes

A slip membrane must be used to allow underfloor heating to expand without affecting the tiles and mortar.
