Balancing the heating circuits
Each heating circuit has to be balanced to ensure optimum performance.  This is normally carried out on installation with fine adjustment taking place when all the floor coverings are in place and the heating has been running for some time.

This may be easily accomplished at the manifold by adjusting the 11 turn valves which are situated in the centre of each white shut-off valve on the lower front of the manifold.  As delivered, the pressure setting valves are set fully open and to adjust use the following procedure:-

With a suitable 3.5mm Allen key, turn the inset valve clockwise until fully closed.  From the SUPPLIED CALCULATION SHEETS or DRAWINGS, look for the NUMBER OF TURNS and find the valve setting for the particular heating circuit to be set.  Using the Allen key turn the valve ANTI-CLOCKWISE the required number of turns.  Repeat above procedure until all heating circuits are adjusted.

Commissioning

1) Carry out the filling procedure and balancing as detailed above.

2) Connect the boiler to the manifold(s) via the decided on control system( please refer to the specific control installation sheets).  Fill up connecting pipework with water (copper connecting pipes should be flushed through to remove scale and flux in the normal manner).  Air within the connecting pipes may be removed by opening the air vents on the top of each manifold.  DO NOT open the white isolating valves on the front of the manifold(s) or remove the white caps from the top of the manifolds at this time.  All manifolds should be Isolated by gate valves in case the rest of the heating and hot water system needs to be drained down for any reason.

3) When the connecting pipes are filled and as much air as possible has been removed then the manifold isolating valves may be opened anti-clockwise and the white caps removed, all underfloor heating circuits will then be opened.

4) The main programmer and boiler may then be switched on and checked for correct
operation.  If running for the first time then the boiler thermostat should be set so that the flow temperature at the manifolds after mixing is at 30 deg.C.  The boiler temperature may then be raised by 5 deg.C per day until the normal running temperature is reached. If using a Honeywell AQ6000 system then the maximum temperature control knob in the boiler box should be set to 55 deg.C, if using the simpler CM51 system then the overheat sensor should be set to 45 deg.C unless otherwise advised.

5) Any residual air in the system may be bled off via the manifold air vents while the system is running.  After you are satisfied the system is operating correctly then the Veltamat KR230 actuators may be fitted to the manifold and checked for correct operation.

6) If in any doubt please ask !
